Progress Over Perfection: The Real Work of Practice

Progress Over Perfection: The Real Work of Practice

I say it all the time:

Practice makes better. Practice makes progress. Progress, not perfection.

But why do I talk about this so much—with my clients, my kids, and the people I serve?

Because I’ve lived it.

While I have many hats, one has been that of professional musician as a concert pianist and opera singer. I’ve spent years on stage, radio, and television. My relationship with practice, progress, and the battle against perfectionism runs deep. And I’ve learned that perfectionism is more than a mindset—it’s a thief. A joy-stealer. A troll that perches on your shoulder, whispering that you’ll never be “good enough." That troll can whisper a lot of nonsense, keeping us the metaphorical Rapunzel in the tower, isolated in our fears, and alone in our hearts.

And I see this struggle everywhere.

It’s not just mine. It’s yours. It’s theirs. It’s universal.

The Shift That Changed Everything

For me, the journey has been about stepping out of perfectionism and into something far greater:

Love. Mercy. Grace.

Not just for others, but for myself.

Because practice isn’t about getting it right.

It’s about ownership and doing the work.

And in a world that often encourages us to soften the edges of struggle, I believe real freedom is found in leaning into it.

Owning it.

Running toward the storm instead of away from it.

Let’s Talk About Boundaries & Owning Your Voice!

That’s why I hope you’ll join DIANA DAVILA and me on March 19th at 6 PM for a powerful evening with a community of women who are ready to take their knowledge of boundaries and turn it into action.

Why?

Because your voice IS your power. It’s fueled by your  #SongOfSignificance—the melody of your life.

It’s ignited by the Fire Within—that driving force that refuses to be silenced.

For me, that Fire is rooted in my relationship with God - it’s from that place that my Purpose flows:

  • To build up others.

  • To love them in their journey—higher.

  • To set their voices free so that new realities can be born.

But here’s the truth:

Boundaries protect that voice. They make room for our gifts to grow.

They give us space to resonate fully. So, are you ready?

Join us. March 19th at 6 PM.

My talented, singer-songwriter daughter Jamiliee Haddad Zamorano will be performing a #SongOfSignificance for us and sharing her recent story demanding her ownership of boundaries - to live her mission whilst being a successful senior in marketing at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Get a sneak peek of her music here:

The clock is ticking in more ways than we realize. Hope to see you there!
