Day 3: An Ode to Joy and Look! Here Comes the Sun!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEETHOVEN!

One of the most pre-eminent and celebrated composers in the HISTORY of Western Classical Music, Beethoven turns 250 years old this December. Born in Bonn, Germany, Beethoven composed most of his celebrated works deaf.

We see in the example of Beethoven, a wonderful example of resiliency and rising.

A Message of Joy For Our World Today!

In the last movement of Symphony #9, we hear the famed "Ode to Joy" that lifts the hearts of many today. German poet, playwright, and historian Friedrich Schiller inspired Beethoven with his words of representing the triumph of universal brotherhood against war and desperation.

Beethoven's use of Schiller's poem in the "Ode to Joy" represents the praise and wish for freedom and peace between all people.

You will find a wonderfully inspired performance of "Ode to Joy" at the bottom of the page.

" Joy, beautiful spark of Divinity [or: of gods],

Daughter of Elysium,

We enter, drunk with fire,

Heavenly one, thy sanctuary!

Thy magic binds again

What custom strictly divided;

All people become brothers,

Where thy gentle wing abides."

Here Comes the Sun and I Say It's All Right!

From Beethoven to the Beetles, it is my deepest pleasure to introduce you to Mr. Thomas Meister, a talented guitarist, music aficionado and international diplomat. He has been the Consul General in Houston since the summer of 2017. As Consul General, he is leading Germany’s engagement Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Oklahoma. His priorities and responsibilities include developing and strengthening political ties between Germany and the consular district, enhancing trade and investment partnerships, cooperation in the field of culture, promoting science and innovation links and rendering consular assistance to the large number of German nationals who call this region their home.

Mr. Meister has kindly contributed a personal performance of "Here Comes the Sun!" to Sonrie! 12 Musical Days of Christmas – to bring JOY to his friends in Houston as well as throughout the world.

The Beatles' manager Brian Epstein died in 1967. The band had to take time from their music to deal with the accounting and business side of their music business, which George Harrison hated. He wrote "Here Comes The Sun" after attending a round of business meetings. This song was inspired by the long winters in England which Harrison thought went on forever. It was released in 1969, the year we walked on the moon.

From the album Abbey Road, we remind you…

Here Comes the Sun, and I Say, It’s All Right.

Here comes the sun, and I say It's all right.

Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here

Here comes the sun, and I say

It's all right

Little darling, the smile's returning to their faces Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here

Here comes the sun, and I say It's all right

Sun, sun, sun, here it comes Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting Little darling, it seems like years since it's been clear

Here comes the sun, and I say It's all right

Here comes the sun, It's all right.
