9-11: A Day of Remembrance, Reflection & A Call to Remember Love.

9-11: A Day of Remembrance, Reflection & A Call to Remember Love.

There is a quiet heartbeat that pulses strongly underneath the rubble that will forever be called "9-11." That quiet heartbeat is faith, hope, and love. It is within that essence that I stand in remembrance, reflection and prayer for those lost, for those whose lives are still impacted by this tragedy, for those who lost loved ones that day and for those who served tirelessly at Ground Zero.

9-11 calls me to remember the HOPE created by the many beautiful human hearts who in ways known and unknown, selflessly reached out to victims and survivors alike; for those brave first responders—fire fighters and physicians, police and military personnel and officials, clergy and counselors and coworkers. HOPE for those who brought comfort to friends and strangers alike. HOPE for those who worked and still work to help those who struggle to “make sense” of that which, by nature, is senseless.

For you who were HOPE that day, thank you. In the actions of so many, we see the most basic meaning of love that was action that day: to do everything possible for the well-being of others.

Today, I remind myself to slow down, to be in gratitude moment by moment, and to move far more intentionally to use my life well. I remind myself to choose LOVE and HOPE as my first choice in tiny moments that matter. Everyone carries scars on their souls that I will never see, know or understand. I remind myself to be kind always, to strive for gentleness in an increasingly violent world. I remind myself that a smile or even holding the hand of someone in pain, matters.

May the memory of all lost - be eternal. May hope and love continue to heal the hearts and minds of those impacted.
